Ireland, the EU and the Olympics

Sometimes I wonder about the quality of journalism. As Ireland votes in a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty most news organisations are profiling the selection of Rio as the host of the 2016 Olympics. By lunch time tomorrow the administration and political leadership of the EU, home to almost 450 million citizens, could be in crisis. Congratulations to Brazilians, and indeed South Americans in general; I believe the IOC made the right choice. But, surely the bigger story is the referendum. RTE, the Irish national broadcaster reports a strong turnout in sceptical Dublin SW and low turnout so far in the more pro-Lisbon Dun Laoghaire (as of 18.00 Swedish time).

Spännande forsättning fö they say.
